The garden is still going great and I still love every minute of it! Here is a look at the last month of my adventures!

The tomato plants have had a bit of a tougher time. Too much rain in the month of June, but now they are doing well.

Inspirations from all of my obsessions. Mommyhood, crafting, sewing, and capturing it all via photography.

Lil S turns 1! We wanted to have a fun party for Lil S but we also wanted to keep it simple. Cough, cough….not do the obsessive party throwing that I usually do. We teamed up with another birthday buddy in play-group and had a birthday play-date! I held back the reins as much as I could, luckily time is not always on my side so it really wasn’t that hard to do! But I still wanted something memorable, you only turn 1 once after all. Here is a look at S and D’s 1st Birthday Play-date!
I made a birthday banner for the honorees! I used scrapbook paper and ribbon, super easy to do!

We had an animal themed party for the birthday duo! I used coordinating scrapbook paper for the tables.

We gave away these adorable plates from Target as our party favors.

Just a few days later we celebrated S’s birthday again with family and also celebrated Mother’s Day! This time I decided to do a Garden Theme since her birthday outfit had a caterpillar on her shirt! I love the way it turned out! And more importantly, Lil S enjoyed both of her special days!

A touch of flowers to add the garden feel!

Shoprite Cake Hack! I find that when I am short on time and energy (which seems like everyday lately) I cheat a little on my birthday cakes. Instead of doing an elaborate homemade cake with homemade marshmallow fondant, I just ask Shoprite to make a plain butter cream cake for me. Don’t worry, the inside is full of strawberry filling! I then take the cake and decorate it to my liking! It’s so much easier and it is decorated exactly how I want it. I love the way it came out.

Lil S loves her Shoprite Hacked Cake. Happy Birthday Sweetpea!

Along with the square foot garden, I also have many containers on my deck growing some of the extra plants that did not make it into the bed. I also have my Kitchen Herb Garden, which was originally what I thought I would do this summer….at least until I became hooked on gardening! I am glad that I took it to the next level. I love it!
Here is a look at the Kitchen Herb Garden. I used this great informational post on herb gardening from Nest In Style.

Originally I bought this container from a local plant store for $55.00 until my hubby laughed at me and when I came home he had built me one for less than 1/2 the price. He mounted it to the deck and it’s the perfect size for all my kitchen herbs.

The rest of the containers I managed to get lucky and found them from a fellow freecyler! I had plenty of leftover plants that didn’t make it into the square foot bed. I have to stop or I am going to take over my deck with veggies.

Most of the deck veggies are doing just as well as the bed, if not better!

Except the NJ Rutger’s Tomatoes, they are not doing so well.

After consulting with the local nursery about why only this variety has struggled (there has been a ton of rain), they felt bad for me and gifted me 6 more Rutger’s Tomato Plants. They are about a week late from the planting cutoff, but who knows…maybe I will get lucky. Here are some that I put in containers.

I also decided to move the strawberry out of the Square Foot Garden and into a container. It was being crowded out by the eggplant, peppers, and cucumber!

Next year we plan on doing something more creative to maximize the space and to give it a more modern look.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
