Adventures in Gardening: Chickens are Growing up

Inadvertent Farmer

My baby chicks are no longer baby chicks. They are teenagers. And they have moved outside to their new home.  I am pretty sure they love it. Although they are still little enough to fit through the semi-private fencing we have. I have to watch them closely to make sure they don’t venture on through it, which they have done before and like to do.

They mainly like to play in this area. I think they like confinement.

They play nicely. And when I tell them it’s time to go back inside. They listen. It’s weird. I will try and video it one day.

They are like little behaved dogs.

We love them.

Except the cleaning the poop out their coop part. I don’t love that so much.  But a necessary thing to be done.

Into the compost bin it goes. I can’t wait for the spring to see how great my compost looks.

All in all, it’s really an EASY adventure so far. Every morning honey-do let’s them loose in their run. (Yes, he participates. I secretly think he likes them but he would never admit it.)  Anyhow, I come out and give them fresh, clean water.  I check on them later in the day. More water. And at night when they head back in to roost, we close up their door and call it a night. Easy peasy.

Now isn’t this enough to make you want to get some?

Adventures in Gardening: Weeks 6-15

Inadvertent Farmer

Well as you can see we are really behind on our gardening posts BUT we are not behind on our gardening!  We have just had a very busy start to the summer.  The girls and I have been happily homesteading in our little suburban backyard.

We added our new garden, our chicken coop, lots of new veggies and we have been sitting back watching them all grow.

Our backyard is our small corner in this world and we love it.

Here is a look back at the last 10 weeks.
